Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
